Liberality in Giving - Exodus 36:5
See All...
INTRODUCTION
In Moses’ day, when the people of God were called upon to give to the work of God, they gave abundantly. Ultimately, the men doing God’s work came to Moses suggesting that the people refrain from giving anything more. Any person with the right heart who believes in the work of God will not have to be begged to give. He will give liberally. This type of liberality manifested itself again in the early church. The Bible describes the people of God at that time as being “of one heart and of one soul” (Acts 4:32And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): The Bible gives examples of those who loved God so much that they gave even when it might have been difficult to give more. Some examples would be the Macedonians (2 Corinthians 8:1-4 [1] Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
[2] How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
[3] For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
[4] Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
See All...) and the widow woman (Mark 12:41-44 [41] And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. [42] And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. [43] And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: [44] For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
See All...). - (For everyone): Would your giving be classified as liberal? Are you more concerned about possessing the things of this world or contributing to the work of God?
- What would you be willing to sacrifice in order to help other believers? What would you give up in order to help missionaries fulfill their calling?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to teach you how to give sacrificially.
- Ask God to give you joy in giving.
