Learn to Follow Your Leader - 1 Corinthians 11:3
See All...
INTRODUCTION
People, especially the young or those new in the Lord, have many misconceptions. Leadership serves as a prime example because of a failure to grasp how it truly works. Many people dream of a future time when they will no longer have to submit to any authority. However, everyone has a leader to which he must submit and follow. God designed the home to have a specified order of authority: the children submit to the parents (Ephesians 6:1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
See All...); the wife submits to her husband (Colossians 3:18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
See All...); and the husband submits to the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:3But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
See All...). In the country, the citizens are to submit to the government (1 Peter 2:13-14 [13] Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
[14] Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
See All...) as the government submits to the Lord (1 Peter 3:22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
See All...). Everyone is under some authority. Saved people are commanded to follow their Lord (John 8:42Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
See All...); whereas lost people follow their father, the Devil (John 8:44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
See All...). Everyone answers to someone whether or not they acknowledge that submission.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): King Saul’s son Jonathan held command over one thousand soldiers. He was in line to become the next king of Israel, but God chose David instead. Jonathan did not fight against the will of God but graciously submitted (1 Samuel 23:15-17 [15] And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood.
[16] And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.
[17] And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth.
See All...). He even helped and encouraged David many times. What might have happened if Jonathan wanted to be the king regardless of God’s plan? - (For everyone): Rebellion is often mislabeled as being independent. Everyone must be led by someone else. Who is your leader? Whom are you leading? Are you leading and following in a way that pleases the Lord?
- Under whose authority do you operate? Who lives under your authority? Why is it important that a leader submits to his God-given authority?Under whose authority do you operate? Who lives under your authority? Why is it important that a leader submits to his God-given authority?
