Lead on Softly
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Perhaps one of the greatest needs of a leader is the ability to discern how different people demand different leadership. In our passage, Jacob explains to Esau that he must lead on softly because the children could not endure a strenuous journey. Godly leadership is flexible. It takes many different things into consideration. Perhaps the personality of the person who is following demands strong leadership. Maybe another person must be led with patience and gentleness. One method of leadership will not work for every person. A godly leader seeks out the method in each case that best accomplishes the will of God and strengthens the follower(s).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) In Sunday School class, when some children are asked nicely to stop talking or to sit down, they do so immediately. Others have to be told more than once. The teacher may speak more firmly to them and set them in their chairs because the teacher loves them and wants them to learn to do right.
- Do you have children or people that you lead? Does each one require the same method of leadership, or do you have to implement different styles of leadership?
- Why is it important that we lead in a way that our followers can endure? How can we know the right way to lead each person for whom we are responsible?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God for wisdom as you lead.
- Ask the Lord to show you how to lead each person.
