Intermeddling with All Wisdom - Proverbs 18:1

Intermeddling with All Wisdom - Proverbs 18:1

INTRODUCTION

The scripture never offers a positive viewpoint of meddling. One might consider intermeddling with wisdom as a good thing, yet the scripture teaches otherwise. Today’s passage states that a man through desire seeks and intermeddles with “all” wisdom. According to James, there are two major types of wisdom, earthly (James 3:15) and heavenly (James 3:17). According to Proverbs 18:1, the man intermeddles with all wisdom, including the earthly. He separates himself from the pure truth and opens his mind to all the various types of wisdom that the world offers. Just as the scriptural teaching on meddling in other places, the man has no business involving himself with the world’s wisdom.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For children): God made Solomon the wisest man that ever lived (1 Kings 3:12). Toward the end of his life, he forsook God’s wisdom and turned toward worldly wisdom thinking it was acceptable to worship other gods. The Lord was angry with him (1 Kings 11:4-9).
  • (For everyone): Man should involve himself only in God’s wisdom. Read Romans 16:19. How does this verse confirm that man should not intermeddle with “all” wisdom?
  • Do you know someone who has separated himself for the purpose of studying and meddling in the world’s wisdom? How has this person benefited? Is that person you?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to help you seek only His wisdom.
  • Thank the Lord for His warnings against meddling.
