In the Days of Thy Youth - Ecclesiastes 12:1
See All...
INTRODUCTION
NOW is the ideal time to love and serve the Lord. Some unwise counsel has suggested that young people should go out and experience the world in their youth before they later settle down and serve God once mature. An equally erroneous teaching proclaims that godly parents should raise their children to love and serve the Master at some future time. Both have misled far too many homes! The Lord wants young people to love and serve Him now. One should begin early in life to learn the most important lessons of life. As a child, one should learn “the fear of the LORD” (Psalm 34:11Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
See All...), to “praise the name of the LORD” (Psalm 148:12-13 [12] Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:
[13] Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.
See All...; Matthew 21:15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,
See All...), and to “remember” his Creator (Ecclesiastes 12:1Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
See All...). Like Samuel, children should grow and be “in favour both with the LORD, and also with men” (1 Samuel 2:26And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Proverbs 3:1-4 [1] My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
[2] For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
[3] Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
[4] So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
See All... tells how to find favour with God and man. Jesus is a good example for us (Luke 2:51-52 [51] And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. [52] And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
See All...). Finding favour with God and man can also be summed up in James 1:22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
See All.... - (For everyone): What could a young person do for the Lord? How could a young person walk with the Lord, fear the Lord, praise the Lord, and remember his or her Creator?
- What are some things that Samuel did, even as a youth, to find favour with the Lord and with men? What could you do in youth to find the same type of favour?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help young people give God their youth.
- Ask God to encourage young people to grow in Him.
