In Other Words...The Bible Doesn't Apply to Us

Sodomy is no longer a sin, says the new bishop of the Episcopal Church.  When she was asked how she reconciled her position on homosexuality with specific passages in the Bible declaring sexual relations between men an abomination, Jefferts Schori said the Bible was written in a very different historical context by people asking different questions.

In other words the Bible is not for us today. What is our authority for truth in these days?  King Zedekiah once asked the prophet Jeremiah, "Is there any word from the LORD?" And Jeremiah said, "There is".  Shouldn't we do likewise.  We must be governed by the words of God or we shall be like those in the days of the judges when the Bible says, "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes."  God help us.
