INTRODUCTION

The promise of Christ to never leave the believer is the greatest statement of loyalty that could be made. He did not suggest loyalty to man based upon conditions of man’s loyalty to Him; rather, He promised He would "never leave." Though the frailty of man offers numerous reasons why the Lord might desire to leave, the character of God overrides the frailty of man. If the Lord makes a promise of loyalty, He will fulfil that promise. According to 2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
See All..., "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise." Once a man is born again, he becomes a child of God and immediately becomes the beneficiary of a promise of loyalty given to him by the Son of God.

• (For smaller children) The Lord will always be there for you (Psalm 37:28For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
  See All...). He was there for David when his men turned on him (1 Samuel 30:6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

[17] Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

• What does it mean to you that the Lord will never leave you? When is the last time you meditated on the Lord’s faithfulness to you?
