I Sought Him Whom My Soul Loveth

Scripture Passage:
Song of Solomon 3:1-4

The Song of Solomon continues with its vibrant expression of love. The bride testifies: “By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not” (v.1). She rises from bed and seeks through the streets of the city and still reports: “I sought him, but I found him not” (v.2).  She asks the watchmen of the city but to no avail (v.3).

Then, after asking the watchmen of him, she finds him herself. She says, “I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go” (v.4). O, that our love for the Saviour might be so! That we might love him so much that any separation would be unbearable. That we would seek again that closeness that we once had; that we would seek until we find. Yes, He holds on to us eternally in salvation. But we must hold on to Him in love in order to have the sweet fellowship of walking with Him.

How is your love relationship with the Saviour? Does your heart ache when that fellowship is hindered? Do you seek and seek until you find him again? “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Be hungry for fellowship with your Lord. Seek for Him until you find Him. Then, hold on to Him and never let Him go.
