How Many Meals Should Be Eaten?
How Many Meals Should Be Eaten?
Judges 19:5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.
INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS
The various dieting trends push for several additional times that man should eat. The Bible clears up any question concerning the number of meals an individual should eat in a single day. Believers should be very careful not to accept the latest trends as though they are the best or even from the Lord. Within scripture, one finds someone partaking of the meal commonly called breakfast (Judges 19:5), at other times, one finds someone partaking of a meal at noon (Genesis 43:16), and at other times, partaking of an evening meal (Luke 24:29-30). In the case of Elijah, the Lord only fed him twice a day (1 Kings 17:6). The most important truth to realize and consider: know that food purposes to give man the necessary strength to fulfil the will of the Lord.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
(For children):Job called food “necessary” (Job 23:12b). We need it for strength and health. Consider the following Bible stories: 1 Kings 19:5-8; Luke 8:52-55; Acts 27:33-38.
(For everyone):What is the purpose of food? When should people eat? What happens when people eat too much? Do they gain more strength or feel more sluggish?
(For everyone):Why is it important to allow the Bible to be your authority in all matters including your diet? Is it possible that God knows more about the body than the modern doctors and scientists?
PRAYER THOUGHTS
Thank the Lord for the strength He gives you through meals.
Ask God to help you find the proper balance in your diet.
