INTRODUCTION

Man’s priority for loyalty is to be the Lord, but part of man’s loyalty to the Lord is loyalty to man. At times, these loyalties will conflict and man would do well to obey the words of Simon Peter when he said, "We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
See All...). When loyalty to God and loyalty to man do not conflict, the Lord admonishes men to be loyal to one another. When Moses placed his honour on Joshua, he did so in order to encourage a level of obedience, respect, and loyalty on the part of the people of God. In like manner, the Lord has crowned man with glory and honour (Psalm 8:5For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
See All...). As such, He has naturally put within man a desire to be loyal.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

• (For smaller children) God expects children to love, respect, and obey their parents. This was so important, God had Moses write it as the fifth commandment (Exodus 20:12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
  See All...). Jesus taught it (Matthew 15:4For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
  See All...). Paul taught it (Ephesians 6:1-2 [1] Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. [2] Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
  See All...). Jesus gave us an example when He was growing up (Luke 2:51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

• Why should children be loyal to their parents? Why should parents be loyal to their children? Why should husbands be loyal to their wives, and vice versa?
• Are you loyal to others? If a child, are you loyal to your parents? If an adult, are you loyal to your boss, spouse, government, and pastor when the loyalty does not conflict with loyalty to God?

PRAYER NEEDS

• Thank the Lord for the honour He has placed on man.
• Ask God to strengthen your loyalty to others.
