INTRODUCTION

Marriage was instituted by God, and He alone has the right to establish the rightful candidates. Everything in creation declares that marriage is a relationship between one man and one woman. The stipulations of marriage are not up for the popular vote of a society, nor are they to be modified by the law of the land. Its conditions are set by a higher law and a higher court. In the beginning, God had the option to present Adam with another man, but He did not. In God’s eyes, marriage is a specific relationship available only between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:21-23 [21] And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; [22] And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. [23] And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Elkanah was called a man and a husband (1 Samuel 1:21-22 [21] And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. [22] But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

• What are some ways in which creation plainly declares that marriage was made to only exist between a man and a woman? How does the ability to reproduce suggest the same?
