He Humbleth Himself - Psalm 113:4-6
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The Lord is high above His creation. He “is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens” (Psalm 113:4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
See All...). He is so exalted that He must humble “himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth” (Psalm 113:6Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
See All...). As strange as it may seem, it humbles God to behold His creation (i.e., the sun, the moon, and the stars). The Bible even declares that “the stars are not pure in his sight” (Job 25:5Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
See All...). All of these things were created by God, yet it humbles Him to behold them. Not only is this true of the Father, but God the Son humbled Himself when He was adorned with a body of flesh (Philippians 2:8Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
See All...). God created man, yet it humbled Him to take on a body of flesh like man.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): God the Son left heaven's glory (where everything is perfect) to come to this world and take upon Himself a body like ours. He understands what it is like to be hungry, thirsty, and tired. He chose to become a man and did so willingly so that He could die for our sins on the cross.
- (For everyone): In what ways could the Lord's beholding His creation be humbling to the Creator? In what ways could the Son have been humbled by taking upon Himself a body of flesh?
- It is important to note that God did not humble Himself because of pride; He humbled Himself for us. If God can humble Himself for us, shouldn’t we be willing to humble ourselves for Him?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you to be willing to humble yourself.
- Take time to thank God for becoming a man for us.
