He Hateth Putting Away - Malachi 2:16
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God never intended for a marriage to end in divorce. His desire is one man and one woman till death parts the two asunder. Divorce would be nonexistent apart from sin. As God hates sin, He also hates the results of sin. Instead of recognizing God’s true feelings for divorce, men often seek to justify their sinful choices suggesting that God understands and would not want them to be unhappy. As sin increases, men’s opinion of divorce softens. Years ago communities, families, and churches frowned upon the act of divorce, but now it seems as though it is merely a bump in the road. So much so, that divorce is not only accepted in the world, it is now readily accepted in the pew and the pulpit.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Ruth's mind was made up to never leave her mother-in-law (Ruth 1:16-17 [16] And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
[17] Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
See All...). How much more should a husband and wife (whom God has brought together and made one) be determined to stay together. Read His command in 1 Corinthians 7: 10, 11c. - What is God’s viewpoint of divorce? What is your viewpoint of divorce? Why is it imperative that your viewpoint match God’s viewpoint?
- What is the perception of your home when it comes to divorce? What about the perception of your church? How can faulty perceptions lead you to make wrong choices?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you adopt His view of divorce.
- Ask God to strengthen your home.
