Grounds for Love
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is easier to love those with which we can find a common bond. When the Lord encouraged His people to love strangers, He did so by reminding them that they too had been strangers in the land of Egypt. By recalling this fact, the Israelites would better associate with those that were strangers to them. They might better remember some of the trials faced by being strangers in a strange land. They might better know how to care for and minister to the strangers when they remembered what it was like to be a stranger. Though we are not under the law and most of us are not Israelites, much can be learned from this truth. When we better relate to others, it becomes easier to love them.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) We cannot know everyone, but we can have a love for all people because all of us are alike in this way: we all have sinned (Romans 3:23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
See All...), and Christ died for us (Romans 5:8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
See All...). We should be willing to share this message with anyone. - As the Lord’s coming draws nigh, lost people are becoming increasingly wicked. As such, it is difficult to relate to them. What common ground could you find to help you love them?
- If finding common grounds helps us love others, how could the Lord better use us to minister to others? How could it help us to be more effective if we endured more trials and difficulties?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you see yourself in others.
- Ask the Lord to give you a love for others around you.
