God Knows Your Thoughts
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Man is foolish when he thinks that he can hide his thought life from the Lord. The Lord knows all man’s thoughts (1 Chronicles 28:9And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
See All...); the good (Malachi 3:16Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
See All...) and the bad (Psalm 94:11The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
See All...). David expressed this truth to the Lord when he said, "Thou knowest . . . my thought afar off. . . . For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether" (Psalm 139:2-4 [2] Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
[3] Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
[4] For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
See All...). The Lord Jesus often exemplified this ability during His earthly ministry (Matthew 12:25And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
See All...; Luke 5:22But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
See All...; Luke 6:8But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
See All...; Luke 9:47And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,
See All...; Luke 11:17But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
See All...). Even the written word of God exemplifies this ability by being "a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) We can hide what we're thinking from other people, but we can't hide it from God. Read Job 42:1-2 [1] Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
[2] I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
See All.... Read what Job did when he realized God wasn't pleased with his thinking (Job 42:6Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
See All...). That was his way of telling God he was sorry. - What are you thinking about right now? Are you thinking about some of the bad thoughts you have had, wondering if God knows about them? He does!
- Why is it important that we yield our thought life to the Lord? How can our impure thoughts grieve the Lord? What blessings can come from God’s knowledge of our righteous thoughts?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to forgive you for your unclean thoughts.
- Ask God to help you remember that He knows your thoughts.
