God Does Not Need Your Sacrifices - Isaiah 1:11
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God desires the sacrifices of men because they declare the love men have for Him, but, in reality, God has no needs that can be met by the sacrifice of men. He made this clear to the Old Testament saints when He said, "I am full of the burnt offerings" (Isaiah 1:11To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
See All...). In another place He told them, "If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof" (Psalm 50:12If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
See All...). The New Testament believer offers sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving (Hebrews 13:15By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
See All...), and these sacrifices please God, but these sacrifices do not improve God in any way. With or without the sacrifices of men, God continues to be who He is.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Paul made it clear in his sermon to the Athenians from Mars' Hill that since God is the creator, He needs nothing from us (Acts 17:24-25 [24] God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
[25] Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
See All...). - Think of some sacrifices that New Testament believers can offer unto the Lord. Consider each one, and discuss why God has no need of that sacrifice.
- Why would men give God sacrifices that He does not need? What opportunities do these sacrifices provide for men? How can you declare your genuine love for God through sacrifice?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for the opportunity to show Him your love.
- Ask the Lord to show you just how great He truly is.
