Giving Beyond Sufficiency - Exodus 36:2-7
See All...
INTRODUCTION
What a scene! The need was great. The people of God had been challenged to bring gifts so that the tabernacle of God could be built. They began to offer as the Lord had worked in their hearts. Yet, there was seemingly no end to their gifts. Every morning the people brought more offerings unto Moses for the work (Exodus 36:3And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.
See All...). The offerings were so much that Bezaleel, Aholiab, and the other wise hearted men came to Moses and requested that the people stop bringing offerings. God so moved on the hearts of the people that they had brought “too much” (Exodus 36:7For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
See All...). Fast-forward to the present day. The work of the ministry requires sufficient money to fund its processes. Could you imagine the astonished look if ever the man of God told the congregation that “We have given too much”?
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): 2 Corinthians 9:7Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
See All... says, “God loveth a cheerful giver.” When we think of how much the Lord loves us (2 Corinthians 8:9For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
See All...), we can't help but love Him back. One way is through giving. 1 Chronicles 29:9Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
See All... is a good example of how we should give. - (For everyone): When is the last time you recall God’s people coming together to give toward God’s work in such a way that too much was given? Why do you think that you have never remembered such a time as this?
- Why do you think the people gave so willingly in Moses’ day? What kind of message did they send to God through their willingness to give? How could this abundant offering build faith in God’s people?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to give you such a desire to give bountifully.
- Ask God to help His people come together to give toward His work.
