INTRODUCTION

“Give not thy strength unto women,” —these words were spoken to a son by his mother (Lemuel—see Proverbs 31:1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
See All...). Most Bible students believe that Lemuel addressed in the Proverb was Solomon. Since Solomon had over 1,000 wives, there is little wonder why his mother’s words were called “prophecy” (Proverbs 31:1The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
See All...). Solomon greatly harmed his kingdom by refusing to heed his mother’s admonition. Eventually, Solomon’s “wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father” (1 Kings 11:4For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
See All...). Those in the kingdom depended upon Solomon’s strength in the Lord. When he surrendered that strength to women, he sealed the judgment and guaranteed the division of the entire kingdom.

• (For children): Nehemiah was a godly leader who knew the danger in Proverbs 31:3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

And he brake them from off his arms like a thread. [13] And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. [14] And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. [19] And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. [20] And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
