From Murder to Meekness - Exodus 2:14
See All...
INTRODUCTION
A reputation can be changed. Moses grew up in Egypt, specifically in the house of Pharaoh. One day when he was grown, he witnessed an Egyptian smiting a Jew. He killed the Egyptian in order to protect his kinsman. News travelled fast and Moses developed a reputation as a short-tempered killer. He learned of this when he attempted to break up a dispute between two Hebrews. Moses ran for his life and spent the next forty years in hiding. Eventually, the Lord spoke to Moses and called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into a land of promise. Moses failed to lead the people into Canaan, but he succeeded in changing his reputation (Numbers 12:3(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) On Paul's first missionary journey, John Mark left the work (Acts 13:13Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
See All...). To Paul, he had the reputation of being a "quitter" (Acts 15:36-40 [36] And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the LORD, and see how they do. [37] And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. [38] But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. [39] And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; [40] And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

Mark proved himself and later had a good reputation (Colossians 4:7-11 [7] All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: [8] Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; [9] With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. [10] Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;) [11] And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
See All...; Philemon 1:24Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
See All...; 2 Timothy 4:11Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
See All...). - Moses was forty years old when he left Egypt as a killer and eighty years old when he returned as a saviour. In the least, how long did it take Moses to change his reputation? What does this teach you about the importance of time and patience?
- What is your reputation? Is there anything you would like to change? What are you willing to do to redeem your reputation?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank the Lord for the opportunity to change your reputation.
- Ask God for the diligence to change what needs to be changed.
