Favour in the Sight of God and Man - Proverbs 3:1-4

Favour in the Sight of God and Man - Proverbs 3:1-4

INTRODUCTION

Men not only develop reputations among other men, but they also develop a reputation with the Lord. A wise individual seeks "favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man." The beautiful thing is that the path to favour in the sight of God will also lend itself to favour in the sight of the right kind of men. According to Proverbs 3:1-3, these things include remembrance of God’s law, keeping the commandments, and the presence of mercy and truth. Before one dismisses the importance of this dual favour, he ought to consider that the scriptures teach the Lord Jesus increased in wisdom leading to an increase in "favour with God and man."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Samuel grew in favour with God and man (1 Samuel 2:11, 26), as did Daniel (Daniel 1:8-9; Daniel 6:3), as did Joseph (Genesis 39:3-4, 21-23). Consider Romans 14:17-18.
  • Who are some others in scripture that found good favour in the sight of God and man? How did their reputations help them find favour?
  • Why is it important to have a good reputation with the Lord and amongst the right kind of people? How much is your reputation based upon your own efforts?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to help you find favour in His sight.
  • Ask God to show you His path to a good reputation.
