Favour in the Sight of God and Man - Proverbs 3:1-4
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Men not only develop reputations among other men, but they also develop a reputation with the Lord. A wise individual seeks "favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man." The beautiful thing is that the path to favour in the sight of God will also lend itself to favour in the sight of the right kind of men. According to Proverbs 3:1-3 [1] My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
[2] For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
[3] Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
See All..., these things include remembrance of God’s law, keeping the commandments, and the presence of mercy and truth. Before one dismisses the importance of this dual favour, he ought to consider that the scriptures teach the Lord Jesus increased in wisdom leading to an increase in "favour with God and man."
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Samuel grew in favour with God and man (1 Samuel 2:11And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
See All..., 26), as did Daniel (Daniel 1:8-9 [8] But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. [9] Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
See All...; Daniel 6:3Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

See All..., 21-23). Consider Romans 14:17-18 [17] For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. [18] For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
See All.... - Who are some others in scripture that found good favour in the sight of God and man? How did their reputations help them find favour?
- Why is it important to have a good reputation with the Lord and amongst the right kind of people? How much is your reputation based upon your own efforts?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you find favour in His sight.
- Ask God to show you His path to a good reputation.
