With this lesson, you begin a course on how to study the Bible. The wonder and richness of the Bible makes it hard to find a starting place. But before you go very far, you must understand a little about what makes the Bible so special. The Bible is unlike any other book in the world. It is a direct message from God.

This chapter records the song of Moses that God gave to him as a teaching tool for the children of Israel. Do not look for stanzas of the hymn, for it has none. Instead, this song is built around the theme of God as the Rock who is superior to all other rocks.

This lesson greatly illustrates a choice made by each person. Will they live their life by conviction or by convenience?

What a difference we see between Saul and David. One impressed men by his exterior appearance; the other impressed God by the condition of his heart.

The Israelites were determined to have a king like all the nations and God had granted their request.

Samuel’s rule as judge was not without its problems. His sons fell short of Samuel’s example and the people demanded a king.

In these two chapters, God’s holiness is vindicated.

God brings a man into the world who will begin to bring Israel back to God. That man is Samuel.
