Destitute of the Truth - 1 Timothy 6:3-5
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Men are destitute of the truth by choice. According to the scripture, the Lord "will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
See All...). One would think all men would want to the know the truth, but this is just not so. Unfortunately, the last days are marked by those who are "ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" (2 Timothy 3:7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
See All...). Men could know the truth if they desired to know it. Abraham’s servant profoundly stated, "Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth" (Genesis 24:27And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
See All...). God is willing and desirous to show Himself and His truth to all.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God's invitation to be saved is for everyone and He reaches out to all (John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
See All...; John 12:32-33 [32] And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. [33] This he said, signifying what death he should die.
See All...; 2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
See All...). It is sad that most men don't want the truth (Romans 1:21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
See All..., 25; Romans 3:11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
See All...; 2 Timothy 3:8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
See All...; 2 Timothy 4:3-4 [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
See All...). What will you do with the truth? - Are you searching for the truth? Are you hungry for the Lord and His word? He will show you the truth. He will guide you in the way you should go. Will you hear, listen, and obey?
- Is there any truth from the Lord that you have rejected? How has that hindered your growth? Is there a way to go back and correct your rebellion?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank the Lord for His faithfulness to give the truth.
- Ask the Lord to give you a heart willing to obey the truth.
