Giving Thanks for God’s Provisions - 1 Timothy 4:4

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes we lose sight of the necessity of the hand of God in our daily provisions. When the bulk of people gathered food from their own fields, they realized the need to thank God for His provisions. Without the Lord, there would be no rain or sunshine to make crops grow and, therefore, no food to feed the family. Today, we grow increasingly convinced that our job provides what we need, or that we have somehow earned what we have. Yet, the truth remains, the Lord is the great provider of our needs. As such, we ought to take time to give God thanks for the basic necessities that He has provided. Our passage speaks specifically of food, but we ought to thank God for our clothing and shelter as well.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Sing the 1 Thessalonians 5:18a song and name things for which you are thankful. Example: I'm thankful for my mom, I'm thankful for my mom, First Thessalonians five eighteen, I'm thankful for my mom. Put in dad, home, clothes, shoes, toys, church, etc.
  • Are you truly thankful to God for His provisions? Do you whisper a quick repetitious prayer before eating a meal, or do you sincerely take time to thank God for providing you with food to eat?
  • Do you complain about the food you have to eat, the clothes you wear, and the house you live in; or are you grateful for what the Lord has given to you?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to help you recognize His hand in your provisions.
  • Thank the Lord for all that He has blessed you with.
