Comfort One Another - 1 Thessalonians 5:11-15
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God comforts believers in hopes that they will, in turn, extend that comfort to others. Believers are admonished to "comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, and be patient toward all men" (1 Thessalonians 5:14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
See All...). Stronger believers are encouraged to bear the infirmities of those who are weak (Romans 15:1We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
See All...), and when one believer is driven to weeping by the trials and troubles of this life, the body of Christ ought to weep with that brother or sister (Romans 12:15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
See All...). Every member of the body of Christ should be available to the strengthening and support of other members of the body, for in doing so, believers fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) When we know people are hurting (physically or in their hearts), we should try to think how they feel and want to help them (1 Corinthians 12:26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
See All...). Job did (Job 30:25Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
See All...; Job 29:15-16 [15] I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. [16] I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
See All...). Abraham knew what to do to comfort weary travelers (Genesis 18:1-5 [1] And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; [2] And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, [3] And said, My LORD, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: [4] Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: [5] And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
See All...). - How can you comfort other believers? What trials has God helped you through? How can you take His help for you and offer it to others?
- Who do you know that might be going through a difficult time? What could you do to comfort them? Have you been through that difficulty before, and if not how could you still be a comforter?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for believers who have helped you.
- Ask God to use “the Comforter” to make you a comforter.
