Cast Your Care Upon Him

Cast Your Care Upon Him - 1 Peter 5:7

INTRODUCTION

The greatest remedy for worry is prayer. In Philippians 4:6, the Lord said, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." This truth is reaffirmed in 1 Peter 5:7 where the Bible says, "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." A man can spend his time caring for the things of this world and for his needs, or he can cast those cares upon the Lord and allow the Lord to care for him. According to Philippians 4:7, the option of prayer replaces the cares and worries of man with "the peace of God" which is able to keep the believer’s heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) When you are afraid, God wants you to talk to Him. David called on the Lord many times to help him (Psalm 3:1, 4-6; Psalm 34:4). God does not want us troubled or afraid (John 14:27).
  • How does prayer hinder worry? How does worry hinder prayer? What are the benefits of choosing prayer versus the consequences of choosing worry?
  • What does 1 Peter 5:7 mean when it says, "for he [the Lord] careth for you"? It is possible that prayer makes your cares God’s responsibility rather than your own?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to help you choose prayer over worry.
  • Ask the Lord to replace your cares with the peace of God.
