Buy the Truth, and Sell it Not - Proverbs 23:23
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The truth is priceless! It is man’s hope and comfort concerning his past, his present, and his future. It assures man that his past is forgiven, his present is worthwhile, and his future is secure. As such, the truth is more valuable than any earthly possession a man might work to obtain. It would be worth a man selling everything he owns just to possess it, and once a man possesses it, he ought to refuse to sell it, not even to spare his own life. Truth is that important, so much so that many faithful men, women, boys, and girls have willingly laid down their lives to confirm their love for the truth. If others loved the truth in such a way, what should be said of believers today?
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God's word is true (John 17:17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
See All...) and valuable (Psalm 119:72The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
See All..., 127). It tells of salvation (1 Peter 1:23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
See All...; John 3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
See All...) and gives hope (2 Corinthians 1:10Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
See All...). Salvation is free! To buy can mean to obtain by accepting or believing (Isaiah 55:1Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
See All...; 1 Thessalonians 2:13For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
See All...; Acts 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
See All...). Have you "bought" the truth? - Do you possess the truth? If so, have you stood for and with truth regardless of the offers of compromise presented by the world?
- Would you be willing to seal your love for the truth with your own blood? What would it take for you to recant your faith?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to give you a boldness to stand for Him.
- Thank God for giving you something worth dying for.
