Be Teachable
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The Book of Proverbs is a chronicle of a father’s instruction to his son. From it, one can gain much practical help in making wise decisions. In the fifth chapter, Solomon warned his son to heed wise instruction. Solomon told his son that failure to do so would lead to regrets later in life, when he, the son, would say, "How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!" According to Proverbs 1:5A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
See All..., "A wise man will hear, and will increase learning." When an individual chooses to refuse learning, he identifies himself as a fool. Every person has much to learn. Be teachable!
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Your Dad and Mom are trying to teach you the ways of God. Are you listening and practicing what God says to do (Proverbs 8:32-33 [32] Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
[33] Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
See All...)? It's for your own good (Proverbs 13:18Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
See All...). - How does it demonstrate arrogance and pride when we refuse to be taught by others? How will it ultimately hinder our growth in the Lord?
- Why is it important that, from an early age, children be taught the importance of being teachable? How does this affect us in our homes, jobs, and churches?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you receive proper instruction.
- Ask God to remove any pride that would keep you from learning.
