Be Strong, and Do It - 1 Chronicles 28:9-10
See All...
INTRODUCTION
God has a specific calling on the lives of each of His people. For Solomon, a large part of that calling was the call "to build an house for the sanctuary" (1 Chronicles 28:10Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
See All...). David, Solomon’s father, had the desire to build the Lord an house, but the Lord reserved that work for the life of Solomon. As king David prepared to pass the responsibility of the kingdom to his son, he encouraged Solomon to follow the Lord and serve Him with a perfect heart. Concerning the building of the temple, David admonished Solomon to "be strong, and do it" (1 Chronicles 28:10Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
See All...). Though each believer has his own calling from God, these words are a wonderful admonition to all.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God encouraged Joshua to take the lead after Moses (Joshua 1:5-9 [5] There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
[6] Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
[7] Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.
[8] This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
[9] Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Azariah encouraged Asa to make changes (2 Chronicles 15:1-2 [1] And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded: [2] And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
See All..., 7-8). Haggai and Zechariah encouraged the people to finish the temple (Haggai 2:1-4 [1] In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying, [2] Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying, [3] Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing? [4] Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:
See All...; Zechariah 8:9Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.
See All...; Ezra 6:14And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
See All...). - What are some great works the Lord called men to do? How did each of those responsible for the work require God’s strength to complete the task?
- What has the Lord asked you to do? Have you heeded the admonition to "be strong, and do it" (1 Chronicles 28:10Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
See All...)? Have you failed to use God’s strength to do God’s work?
