Be Not Friends with an Angry Man - Proverbs 22:24-25

Be Not Friends with an Angry Man - Proverbs 22:24-25

INTRODUCTION

The Bible says, “Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous” (Proverbs 27:4). Yet, these two emotions generally adversely affect all who come into contact with them. The believer should not only abstain from ungodly anger within his own heart but also guard himself against making friends with those who are angry. This is why Solomon said, “Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.” Generally, believers take on the traits of those with whom they spend the majority of their time. This is why it is imperative that believers spend much time with the Lord and avoid ungodly, close friendships.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For children): Read what the Bible says about anger (Ecclesiastes 7:9). What could happen if we choose a fool as our friend (Proverbs 13:20b). The Bible tells us who our companions should be (Psalm 119:63; Proverbs 2:20; Proverbs 13:20a).
  • (For everyone): With whom do you spend the majority of your time? Are these people godly people who love the Lord? Are they bitter or angry in an ungodly way? How has this changed you?
  • Do you find that spending time with certain people always leaves you complaining, frustrated, bitter, or angry? Why is that? What should you do to protect your walk with the Lord?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to help you choose the right kind of friends.
  • Ask the Lord to protect you from the snare of anger.
