As We Have Opportunity
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The sixth chapter of Galatians covers a variety of subjects, but one of those subjects is that of helping those who are in need. As opportunities present themselves, we ought to "do good unto all men." The Lord knows that there are times that we cannot help someone in need, but the Lord also knows when we have a genuine opportunity. We have a basic duty to help anyone that we can, but our foremost responsibility is to those "who are of the household of faith." The good that we might do unto others is not always merely financial good. Peter and John faced a dilemma in Acts 3 when Peter responded, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee" (Acts 3:6Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
See All...). Where they lacked monetary opportunity to help, they found spiritual opportunity.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) As children, we don't have much money to help others; but there are things we can do to make their day brighter: make a homemade card, say a kind word, tell them you will pray for them, quote a Bible verse, draw them a picture, etc.
- Do you know anyone that has a need that you could help meet? What efforts have you taken to be a blessing to that person or that family in their time of need?
- We cannot help everyone that needs help, yet we can help some. Why would the Lord put the emphasis on helping others who are saved? What are some ways you can help your brothers and sisters in Christ?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to show you ways to help others.
- Ask God to give you opportunities to help.
