Armour for the Battle - Ephesians 6:11-18
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Most battles won have been won because of being equipped with the proper weaponry. Though the substance may be different in Christian warfare, the same theme prevails. No believer is nearly as successful in battle as he is when he dons “the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
See All...). This armour assists the believer as he seeks to stand “against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
See All...). This armour defends the loins with truth, the vital organs with righteousness (Ephesians 6:14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
See All...), the head with salvation (Ephesians 6:17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
See All...), and the entirety with faith (Ephesians 6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
See All...). The same armour provides the offensive weaponry in the word of God and prayer (Ephesians 6:17-18 [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
[18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
See All...). Notice that the spiritual weaponry lacks any emphasis upon the physical.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Goliath had better weapons and armour than David (1 Samuel 17:4-7 [4] And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
[5] And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
[6] And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
[7] And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
See All...), yet David refused Saul’s armour (1 Samuel 17:38-39 [38] And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. [39] And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
See All...). He had only a staff, a sling, and five stones, but he was not really depending upon them to defeat the giant. Read on whom David was depending (1 Samuel 17:45-47 [45] Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. [46] This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. [47] And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
See All...). - (For everyone): What parts of the body are covered by the armour? Are there any parts left uncovered (i.e., the back, the knees)? Why would these parts need no armour?
- What is the connection between each piece of armour and the part of the body that it covers (i.e., why are the loins girt about with truth, or why is the head covered with salvation)?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank the Lord for the armour He has given you.
- Ask the Lord to help you put on the whole armour of God.
