A Purified People - Titus 2:14
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Purity often involves a process. The twofold purification process in the believer's life commences at the moment of salvation. This process then progresses as the believer walks with the Lord. The individual's faith in the finished work of Christ washes away one's sin in Christ’s blood. Christ's blood cleanses completely and purifies every believer from his sin. This cleansing and purification remains forever settled between the Lord and the believer. The born-again Christian will never and can never again be any less pure in his position with the Lord. Peter confirms the positional purity when he wrote that his audience had “purified” (past tense) their souls (1 Peter 1:22Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
See All...). Our purity in position, settled by trusting Christ as Saviour (Titus 2:14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
See All...), cannot be reversed. However, positional purity does not guarantee purity on a daily basis during our walk. The Christian's practice (his walk) must by choice remain pure.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For children): Someone spills a drink on your toe right after you took a bath. Would you need another bath or could mom just wipe off your toe? Ask dad or mom to explain why Peter just needed his feet washed in John chapter 13.
- (For everyone): Have you trusted the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour? Have you had your soul “purified” by the blood of Christ? If not, you are not pure in your position and cannot be in your walk.
- The Lord wants to purify people. Initially, He demonstrates this in His offer of salvation, but follows with a call to personal purity. Are you walking before the Lord in purity?
PRAYER NEEDS
- If you are saved, thank the Lord for purifying your soul.
- Ask the Lord to help you live a pure life before Him.
