A Prayer for Confusion - Psalm 35:1-4
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is not a common practice to desire confusion. Yet, there are times in the word of God when believers pleaded with the Lord in hopes that He might send confusion to their enemies. David besought the Lord that He would send confusion to those who devised (Psalm 35:4Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
See All...), desired (Psalm 70:2Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.
See All...), and rejoiced at his hurt (Psalm 35:26Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
See All...). Perhaps the Lord would lead those who would chase David in the wrong direction. Perhaps the Lord would allow David’s enemies to turn on each other rather than killing David. Regardless, David knew that there would be times when his enemies would have the ability to overtake him. In those times, he asked the Lord to intervene on his behalf.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Elisha told Israel’s king where the Syrians were going to attack. Syria’s king sent a great host to surround Elisha at Dothan. Elisha prayed for the Lord to smite the army with blindness and he led the army to the king of Israel (2 Kings 6:8-14 [8] Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
[9] And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
[10] And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
[11] Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
[12] And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
[13] And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
[14] Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
See All..., 18-19). - Have there ever been times when you needed the Lord to confuse someone who was trying to harm you? Did you know that you could ask the Lord to work on your behalf?
- How would this be a good prayer for missionaries who are working in closed fields? How would it be a good prayer for those who seek to give the gospel in troublesome times?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for the times He has confused the enemy.
- Ask God to put a hedge about you as you serve Him.
