A Faithful High Priest - Hebrews 2:10-17

A Faithful High Priest - Hebrews 2:10-17

INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS

The world’s perfect example of dependability is the Lord Jesus Christ. The New Testament records many instances of His faithfulness, but none more expressive than the faithful manner in which He performs His duties as the believer’s high priest. According to today’s passage, Christ faithfully sanctifies believers. Through His death, He destroys the Devil and the power he exerts over death. The Christian’s high priest also remains faithful to deliver and reconcile all who come to Him in faith. Most importantly, Christ is a “merciful and faithful high priest” making reconciliation for sin. A high priest goes to God on behalf of the people. As the believer’s high priest, the Lord Jesus faithfully hears the believer’s prayers and presents them to the Father in His own Name. Never has there been someone so faithful as our high priest!

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For children) You promise to take out the trash every week. When would mom really need you to do this the most, when she is well or when she is sick? Practice keeping your promises at all times so when difficult times come, others will know they can fully depend upon you.
  • (For everyone) Have you ever thought what it would be like to go to the Lord in prayer and realize that He was no longer listening? What a terrible notion! How different would your life be if that really happened to you?
  • At all times, the Lord shows Himself dependable! Could the same be said of you? Do others know they can always count on you when times are tough?

PRAYER THOUGHTS

  • Ask the Lord to show you the depth of His dependability.
  • Ask God to make you more reliable and dependable—more like Him.
