A Bias Against the Truth - John 8:44-47
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Men would rather believe anything than the truth. They would rather accept the lies of evolution than to believe the truth of the creation and the Creator. They would rather believe in multiple ways to heaven rather than believe Christ when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
See All...). They would rather believe life ends with the grave than to accept that man will live forever either in heaven or in the lake of fire. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. During His earthly ministry, the Saviour said, "And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not" (John 8:45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
See All...). Apparently, men have a natural bias against the truth.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Man seems to want to turn from the truth (Proverbs 1:23-25 [23] Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
[24] Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
[25] But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
See All...; Isaiah 53:6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
See All...), even to the point of opposing it and hating those who give it (Acts 5:27-33 [27] And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, [28] Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. [29] Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. [30] The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. [31] Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. [32] And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. [33] When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
See All...; Acts 7:51-52 [51] Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. [52] Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
See All..., 54, 57-58; Acts 13:44-50 [44] And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. [45] But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. [46] Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. [47] For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. [48] And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. [49] And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region. [50] But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
See All...). Are you believing the truth? - Read Galatians 4:16Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
See All.... Why would Paul think that he could become someone’s enemy merely because he spoke the truth? Have you had someone angry with you because you spoke the truth? - Why do men struggle so hard to believe the truth? Does it not require equal or greater faith to believe lies?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you be a receiver of truth.
- Ask the Lord to protect you from the lies of this world.
