This Is the Gift of God - Ecclesiastes 5:19
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Riches and honour come of the Lord (1 Chronicles 29:12Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
See All...). In the grand scheme of things, only the Lord is wise enough to determine the amount of riches that each man can rightfully possess while bringing Him the most glory. The Lord warned His people that as their riches increased, they would be tempted to forget the origin of those riches. He told them to remember that it was He that gave them power to get wealth in the first place (Deuteronomy 8:18But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
See All...). Solomon stated that the ability of men to possess riches and partake of those riches was the gift of God. Unfortunately, many lose sight of this truth as their riches increase.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) These men knew the source of their blessings: Abraham (Genesis 24:35And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.

See All...; Genesis 33:11Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
See All...); Solomon (2 Chronicles 1:11-12 [11] And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: [12] Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
See All...). Job knew the source of his wealth. When God took it away, Job still trusted Him (Job 1:21-22 [21] And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. [22] In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
See All...; Job 42:12So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
See All...). - Regardless of how riches are obtained, the Lord ultimately has the right to refuse or allow riches. Why is it important for us to recognize our riches come from the Lord?
- If riches come from the Lord, then mankind owes Him for any riches He allows man to possess. What have you given back to the Lord for all that He has given you?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for all that He has allowed you to have.
- Ask God to remind you frequently of the origin of your riches.
