They Loved Not Their Lives - Revelation 12:10-11
See All...
INTRODUCTION
There comes a time in each person’s life when two loves conflict and one must be chosen as the superior love. In the tribulation, there will people who must choose whether they prefer to please the Lord or live. According to Revelation 12:10-11 [10] And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
See All..., there will be some who will love "not their lives unto the death." Their love for the Saviour will surpass their love for life itself. Perhaps this sounds like an easy choice, but one should consider that many of these dear saints will leave behind loved ones. Some mom will give her life for the cause of Christ knowing that she will leave behind her small child. Some husband will give his life even though he will leave behind the wife he loves.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) In Matthew 22:36-38 [36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38] This is the first and great commandment.
See All..., Jesus tells what is the greatest commandment. If we do this, we will love Him more than ourselves and be willing to die as these people were: Esther 4:16Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
See All...; Jeremiah 26:11-15 [11] Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears. [12] Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard. [13] Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you. [14] As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you. [15] But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
See All...; Daniel 3:16-18 [16] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. [17] If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. [18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
See All...; Acts 12:1-2 [1] Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. [2] And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
See All...; Acts 14:19-22 [19] And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. [20] Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. [21] And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, [22] Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
See All.... - How much do you love life? Would you be willing to give your life for the cause of Christ if duty demanded it? If not, why? Is it because you fear death or because you do not love God?
- No one should ever seek to be martyred for the faith. At the same time, each believer should love the Lord enough that he or she would be willing to be martyred for the faith.
