There Remaineth a Rest - Hebrews 4:1-11
See All...
INTRODUCTION
In creation, God laboured six days before resting on the seventh (Hebrews 4:4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
See All..., 10). One day, all who know the Lord as Saviour will cease from their labours. It will be a time of eternal rest known only to those who are born again. No more will the saved face the difficulties associated with labour such as tears, sorrow, and pain (Revelation 21:4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
See All...). According to Revelation 14:13And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
See All..., "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." For many, rest is hard to find in this life, but one can rejoice in knowing "There remaineth . . . a rest to the people of God" (Hebrews 4:9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) When Adam and Eve sinned, God put a curse on the earth. Life would be full of labour and man would eventually die (Genesis 3:16-19 [16] Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
[17] And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
[18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
[19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
See All...). But in eternity, God promised there would be no more curse (Revelation 22:1-3 [1] And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. [2] In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. [3] And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
See All...). We will enjoy perfect rest. - Are you longing for rest but cannot seem to find it here on this earth? Do you know the Lord Jesus as your Saviour? If so, rejoice in knowing that your rest is coming.
- Are you labouring for the Lord? What works will "follow" you when you leave this world? Are you expecting any rewards from the Lord or have you laboured only for yourself?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for the promised rest.
- Ask the Lord to help you labour faithfully for Him until you die.
