The Land Shall Enjoy Her Sabbaths - Leviticus 25:1-7
See All...
INTRODUCTION
For thousands of years, farmers have been implementing, through various techniques, the idea of allowing their land to rest. They understand land cannot continually endure the stress of producing crops without some time of rest for renewal. Man is no different. A man may think himself productive now, because of the continual work and effort, but he cannot continue at that pace. At some point, he will cease to be fruitful unless he allows himself a period of rest for the purpose of renewal. Man is like the ground. Every time he does something that produces fruit, he loses part of himself. He must have time to receive from the Lord what he has given to others.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The Lord warned His people what would happen if they did not honour His sabbaths (Leviticus 26:32-35 [32] And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.
[33] And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.
[34] Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
[35] As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
See All...). The people did not listen (Ezekiel 23:38Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.
See All...), and the Lord kept His word (2 Chronicles 36:20-21 [20] And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: [21] To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
See All...). - Things that fail to receive the necessary rest fail to be as fruitful as desired. How can this truth be applied in the life of a Christian? Are you enjoying the appropriate amount of rest?
- What is the quickest way for a Christian to quit the work of the Lord? How close are you to giving in to the pressures and quitting the work God has called you to do?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you rest so that you can remain fruitful.
- Thank the Lord for showing you the need to rest.
