The Blessing of Reading and Hearing

Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS

No other book ever written apart from the Bible can offer the spiritual blessings received from reading, hearing, and heeding it. The Bible specifically indicates a special blessing can be received from reading the book of Revelation. However, there can be no doubt that blessings are received any time any of the words of God are read and heard. Perhaps these blessings will not immediately show themselves; but eventually, believers devoting time to the reading and/or hearing of scripture will begin to receive great spiritual benefits. As the word of God enters the eyes and ears, it works its way into the heart and mind. As the word of God moves into these areas, it begins a purification process (Ephesians 5:26).

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

(For children): There is no greater joy or blessing than to know for sure you are going to heaven. You can only know this by reading or hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17; John 3:16; John 6:37b).

(For everyone): People have different methods of learning in which they excel. How do you learn best? Do you implement this method in your study of the scripture?

(For everyone): What are some blessings that can be received by reading or by hearing the Bible read? Have you ever considered the blessings that you are missing when you fail to read the Bible or hear it read?

PRAYER THOUGHTS

Ask God to help you to be faithful to read and hear His word.

Thank the Lord for the blessings you have received from hearing and reading His word.
