Jealousy Is the Rage of a Man - Proverbs 6:34
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Jealousy is much like a weapon. If it rests in the bosom of one with righteous motives, many lives can be spared, but if it rests in the bosom of a fool, it can lead to unjust destruction. The very thing that possesses the Lord to protect His people, His land, and His name, can lead ungodly men into rage. Whereas God’s jealousy protects the righteous and consumes the guilty, the jealousy of man consumes the lives of many innocent people. Song of Solomon states that "jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame" (Song
of Solomon 8:6

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The Bible has many stories about man's jealousy. In each case, there is much heartache and destruction brought to innocent people (Genesis 4:3-5 [3] And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
[4] And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
[5] But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

See All..., 11, 18; 1 Samuel 18:8-9 [8] And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? [9] And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
See All...; Esther 5:11-14 [11] And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. [12] Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king. [13] Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate. [14] Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
See All...; Esther 7:10So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.
See All...; Esther 9:13-14 [13] Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows. [14] And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.
See All...; Daniel 6:1-4 [1] It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; [2] And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. [3] Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. [4] Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
See All..., 24). - Jealousy in and of itself is not sinful, yet it can be sinful if it is misplaced and misguided. What are some ways in which jealousy can turn evil?
- Has jealousy proven harmful to any in your family? What happened to cause this harm? Did the jealousy begin with righteous motives?
