Holy and Without Blame Before Him - Ephesians 1:1-4
See All...
INTRODUCTION
There are two areas in which a man can be blameless. Based upon a man’s efforts to do right, he can be blameless in his practice. Based upon the finished work and righteousness of Christ, a believer can be blameless in his position. It is this area of blamelessness that is the subject of Ephesians 1:4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
See All.... This is also the area of blamelessness of which Colossians 1:22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
See All... speaks. In the context of that passage, it is clear this blamelessness comes only through the reconciliation of Christ (Colossians 1:21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
See All...). This means that in Christ, believers bear no guilty responsibility for sins they have committed. Instead, believers are viewed and accepted in the righteousness of Christ (Ephesians 1:6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) Right now, in God's sight, a saved person is without blame because Christ took our sin on Him when He died and gave us His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
See All...). There is no other way to be blameless (Romans 10:1-5 [1] Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. [2] For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. [3] For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. [4] For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. [5] For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
See All...; Philippians 3:9Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
See All...). - What is the difference between a man’s position and his practice? Why is it important for each believer to know where he stands both positionally and practically?
- Why do believers not bear any guilty responsibility for their sins? What has Christ done to ensure that that guilt was satisfied and removed?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for what He has done for you.
- Ask God to help your practice match your position.
