Envy Yields Action - Proverbs 3:31
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Envy is a heart problem that, if caught early enough, may never manifest itself to the eyes of man. However, if it is not caught and repented of swiftly, it will yield much greater problems. Solomon’s first admonition to his son was that he not envy the oppressor, and rightly so this admonition preceded the choosing of the oppressor’s ways. If a man spends his time envying the wicked, he will eventually choose the very ways that he once envied. Long before an individual outwardly turns from righteousness to worldliness, he does so in his mind without restraint. Failure to repent of these thoughts will eventually yield unholy actions.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The neighbour brags that he is having more fun camping on the weekends than you are going to church. If you envy him, you may quit going to church. God will reward your faithfulness (Psalm 31:19Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
See All..., 23). If your neighbour does not know God, he has nothing to look forward to like you do (Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
See All...). - Have you allowed known sin to overtake you? Did you first find yourself envying others who were partaking in the very sin of which you are now guilty?
- Are you currently envious of anyone in your heart? Are you willing to repent, before it goes any further? What will happen if you refuse to repent?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you see the end result of envy.
- Ask the Lord to show you when envy creeps into your heart.
