Confusion and Sin - Daniel 9:7-8

Confusion and Sin - Daniel 9:7-8

INTRODUCTION

It cannot be said that every case of confusion is a direct result of personal sin, but it can be said that sin brings confusion. Daniel made this point while contrasting God and man. While righteousness belonged to the Lord, confusion belonged unto the people. Why? Because they had sinned against the Lord. Sin takes an otherwise clear and indisputable reality and blurs it with things that are corrupt or inaccurate. Each sin committed makes it more difficult for a child of God to discern the perfect will of God, and it blurs the otherwise broad line between sin and righteousness. Therefore, any believer who desires clarity of mind will eschew evil.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Peter would not believe what was going to happen to Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23) nor what Jesus told him he would do when that time came (Matthew 26:31-35). Once Peter denied the Lord, it became easier to do it a second and third time.
  • Do you find it difficult to discern the difference between right and wrong? Was there a time in your life when it seemed much easier than it does now? What happened?
  • What are some ways in which sin can bring confusion? Why does sin bring confusion? What does it do to your fellowship with God? How does this yield confusion?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Thank God for the clarity He gives.
  • Ask God to guard you from sin that would bring confusion.
