Compassing Sea and Land for One - Matthew 23:15
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Though there be some, the vast majority of hypocrites would never be thought of as lazy. Their efforts may be in the wrong things, but they work hard at what they do. The Lord Jesus understood this and made the point that hypocrites would "compass sea and land to make one proselyte." How few believers would labour so hard to win "one" to the Lord! Yet, the hypocrite works hard promoting things that are unholy and contrary to the will of God. If believers worked as hard to lead others to Christ and teach sound Bible doctrine as they do finding fault in others or seeking the praise of others, churches would be full of converts who are growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) When missionaries survey the land to which they are called, they often find a number of false religions while no true church exists for miles, if at all. We need to pray for workers (Matthew 9:36-38 [36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
[37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
[38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
See All...), better yet, have a heart like Isaiah (Isaiah 6:8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
See All...). - In what areas of service for the Lord are you putting your efforts? Are you witnessing to the lost? Are you seeking the Lord in prayer? Are you reading your Bible?
- Do you find yourself working hard to get the praise of men? Are you working tirelessly to find the faults in others while ignoring them in your own life?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to help you labour for right things.
- Ask God to show you when you are acting like a hypocrite.
