Blameless Does Not Equal Sinless - Luke 1:5-6

Blameless Does Not Equal Sinless - Luke 1:5-6

INTRODUCTION

Some have suspected that one is blameless only when he does nothing wrong, but the scripture teaches that "all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). The Bible goes on to say that "there is none that doeth good, no, not one" (Romans 3:12). In other words, there are no individuals on earth, apart from the Lord Jesus, who were or are sinless, including Zacharias and Elisabeth. Yet the Bible does teach that they were blameless. How could one be blameless and not be sinless? Blame suggests a failure to make wrongs right. As such, one can deduce that when Zacharias and Elisabeth sinned against the Lord, they did what the law required to make things right.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) One day the Lord will change us to be like Him (Philippians 3:20-21). Until then, we all have trouble with sin (Romans 7:18-20, 24-25a). John tells us how to be blameless (1 John 1:8-10; 1 John 2:1-2).
  • Are you sinless? How can you be blameless in spite of the fact that you sin on a daily basis? Do you make the necessary efforts to ensure that you are without blame?
  • Paul as a sinner needed to be saved, yet he was blameless (Philippians 3:6) concerning the righteousness which is in the law. How could this be?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to help you concern yourself with making things right.
  • Ask God to show you when you are not without blame.
