Absent, but Present - 2 Corinthians 5:6-8
See All...
INTRODUCTION
The Bible is the mind of God, and as such it most often presents things from a perspective contrary to the common line of thinking. Man places great emphasis on the here and now. His only concept of life is the life he has in the flesh. Little does man consider that while he is at home in this body, he is absent from the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
See All...). While man is absent from the Lord, he is absent from the truest form of life that he can ever know. This is why Paul said, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
See All...). Paul knew that life truly began at the moment man leaves his body to be present with the Lord.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) The apostle Paul said "to die is gain" and he tells us why (Philippians 1:21
See All..., 23). That's why he was "ready" when his time to die was coming soon (2 Timothy 4:6For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
See All...). The Lord is with us now; and when we die, we will be with Him (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 [9] For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, [10] Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
See All...). - Why could Paul boldly say that he would rather be absent from the body? What must happen in a person’s life in order for him to be able to share Paul’s longing?
- What are some ways in which your life after death will be far superior to the life which you currently live? How should that truth also improve your present life?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Thank God for the eternal life He has given you.
- Ask the Lord to help you live each day for His glory.
